Youth Development
Introduction from Natalie
Natalie has been our Youth Development Coordinator since August 2023, part of Natalie’s role is coordinating all youth activity within Take A Bow, supporting young people ages 12 – 25. Since starting in the role, we have now recruited two Youth Development Assistants to support with all the services we have available to young people. Through this time, we have also been forming relationships with partners to strengthen the work we do with young people.
Since starting we have launched two programmes – Uplift Plus and our Uplift Schools Programme which aim to promote the social and personal development of young people, gaining life experience, building confidence, with a focus on challenging personal barriers along the way and empowering young people to have their voices heard and welcome new challenges.
Our main ethos is to encourage young people’s personal development, promote independence, autonomy, life skills, employability skills and general knowledge of the wider world.
However, upon request we are open to facilitating bespoke workshops for young people and/or schools.
What we do
Uplift Plus
The Uplift Plus Programme runs for 8 weeks and supports young people ages 16-25 in building new social connections, boosting confidence, increasing life skills and money management skills. A huge part of this programme is planning for our future, goal setting and working towards progression routes e.g. training, volunteering, work experience, college, university, and employment. We offer a range of group and 1-1 support to enable young people access information, support, and guidance.
Uplift Schools
The Uplift Schools Programme runs for 6 weeks and supports young people ages 12-15 in thinking more positively about their future, gaining core life skills, practical skills, and social/communication skills. The purpose of this programme is to support young people who have low school attendance and/or attainment who may need support finding an alternative to schooling or support reintegrating back into an education environment. In this programme we hope to shift mindsets and encourage teenagers from a young age to think about actions, consequences and how we live and work in the wider world. Within this programme we focus on practical skills and gaining new experiences through teambuilding trips and working alongside our partners.
Youth Group
Youth Group takes place every Tuesday evening from 6-8pm at Take A Bow Opportunity Centre on London Road.
During our youth club we undertake a range of activities dependant on suggestions from the young people and carry out activities such as fun games, baking, nature walks, arts & crafts, fitness classes, karaoke and much more.
All our youth club activities are FREE and ages 12-15 are welcome.
Summer Programme
During the holidays we will run an 8-week Summer Programme at our London Road Opportunity Centre called Introduction to Creative Industries which is open to 16–25-year-olds and running Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays. This programme is in partnership with Maddison Green, Ayrshire College and funded by EALP. Throughout the programme young people will have the opportunity to take part in songwriting, music production, woodwork art, an enterprise project and receive a Level 4 Enterprise Activity Award whilst a strong focus on enhancing employability skills and opportunities along the way, supporting young people into a positive destination.
